On Sunday 1st May 2005 the Collector Village Pumpkin Festival will kick off its third year celebrating the village, its community and pumpkins. Yesterday, Wednesday 13 April 2005, key sponsors gathered together to show their support of the Festival with the big day a little over two weeks away. “An overview of festival supporters illustrates an example of a partnership crossing local government, big and local business, and local club sectors”, Pumpkin Festival Committee chair Mr James McKay said yesterday. “I think it was the pumpkin scones we bought along to a council meeting three years ago which got the ball rolling. The then Gunning Council made a decision to offer generous financial support to get the Festival up and running and (following NSW Council amalgamations) Upper Lachlan Council has continued to show tremendous support and commitment.” “On the business side, every single sponsor who was involved from the first Festival has come back to increase their support. “It is fantastic to see that a wacky idea like a pumpkin festival compels business to put their hands in their pockets to help it out or to lend their time and expertise to the Festival”. “There is no doubt events like the Collector Village Pumpkin Festival have the capacity to generate a greater sense of community spirit in regional areas, and I think that along with the Festival’s uniqueness this really is the basis for the strong response that we have had from sponsors”. “If you look at the people gathered here today, from the Council, the Goulburn Workers Club, Country Energy, and Collector’s local pub, the Bushranger Hotel, you see local government, a local club, a big corporate enterprise and a small local business all represented. What they are involved in is backing a committed community and their desire to celebrate their village and raise some money to help maintain and improve the amenity of the town. You can’t ask for more than that, and as a committee and community we are all very grateful.” IMAGES OF YESTERDAYS GET TOGETHER ARE AVAILABLE FROM HANK AT CROOKWELL GAZETTE – ph - 02 4832 1077 |
